Is Your Eating Out Of Control, Part 2

in Fact or Fiction?

If you missed it, check out part 1 of this series, “Is Your Eating Out Of Control”.

We left of speaking about how hormones are the messengers which tell our brain what is going on in our body. Basically.

WikiAnswers tells me there are “about 1953 hormones in the human body”. I can’t attest to the accuracy of that statement and I don’t feel like spending the afternoon Googling.  What I do know is that there are only a handful we need concern ourselves with for the purposes of figuring out, once and for all, how-to lose weight!

BUT - before we get into the boring big word science most of you probably don’t care to know ……. I want to ask you a question:

Think of a food you HATE and will NOT eat, no way, no how - I dunno, maybe anchovies? My sister hates and will not eat potatoes. She has NEVER, not since the day she was born, swallowed potatoes.

How about some fried spiders - considered a delicacy in Cambodia.

Do Fried Spiders Cause You Lose Control Of What You Eat?

If I put your “I will NOT eat that food” in front of you right now, (Fried Spiders anyone?) do you think you would be able to control whether or not you ate it?

What if I put your very best favorite food in front of you?  How about some chocolate cheesecake? My favorite “I have no control” food is a brownie sundae.  Friendlys makes a particularly yummy Oreo brownie sundae. Put a brownie sundae in front of me and I’M EATING IT!

I could end the series right there. While this isn’t the point of this series, I want you to accept the fact that YOU DO have the ability to control, TO CHOOSE, what you put into your body.

ALWAYS! 100% of the time!!! (Though I do realize that it can sometimes feel like we are out of control! And I’ll get to why, and how to fix that, eventually!)

I’m going to ask you another question - you’ll have to use your imagination for this one because hopefully you haven’t tried this - Suppose you hadn’t eaten a single thing for a week….do you think you would maybe, just maybe….eat that “I will NOT eat that, no way, no how, food”?

You may say, NO WAY but science says otherwise. I guarantee you, after a week of no food (or whatever length of time it takes for your particular metabolism - I’m guessing longer for Fried Spiders!), you would most definitely eat those spiders, and you might even LIKE THEM!

Yes, there does come a point when you seemingly will no longer be able to “control” what you put into your body.  I mean, can you imagine willingly eating those spiders?  I sure can’t. Then again, I think the longest I’ve ever gone without eating might be 48 hours when I had a stomach virus.

See but here’s the thing - if you are starving, literally starving, you are going to CHOOSE of your own free will to eat those spiders. You will WANT to eat those spiders! And here is where we get into the mind-body connection and how that relates to weight loss, diet, and that “out of control” feeling most of us experience at one time or another.

And, just as we get to the good stuff, another cliff hanger!!! I have to go work off that half gallon of ice cream I ate the other night. Yup. I ate the WHOLE thing.  And I liked it. And I didn’t feel guilty. (Though I did have a helluva carb hangover!)
